I only wash my hair once a week. When my hair was shorter I had to wash it everyday. I also used TONS of products to keep it looking fresh and funky like I wanted it to. I also was getting it cut every three weeks, so I didn’t have to be too concerned about hair quality since I was losing a third of my length. But as I grew my hair out, I had to learn how to take care of it all over again. I wanted to keep it looking healthy and beautiful.

About that same time, I learned of all the chemicals that were in my hair care products and I knew I had to do something different. So I switched to a

no-poo

 method.

But I had an interesting experience recently and I just had to share it with you. Last week I blogged about how I alternate between my no-poo method (baking soda and vinegar) and a natural plant based Lavender Mint shampoo and conditioner.

I stayed at a friend’s house not too long ago. I hate packing and I'm always looking for ways to simplify the process. So I had the not-so-brilliant idea that I would just not pack my natural shampoo or my no-poo since I knew my friend had shampoo in the bathroom already. I mean, so I wash with a regular, commercial shampoo - how bad could it be?

I don’t know if you have ever seen the Seinfeld episode with the low-flow shower heads, but I can tell you, that’s what my hair looked like after I washed it with commercial shampoo! Flat, limp, lifeless, absolutely horrible. It wouldn’t hold a curl! It looked terrible and left me totally frustrated.

This experience taught me that my natural approach to hair care really is the way to go. My hair hates chemicals. And no-poo is CHEAP! It continues to save me money throughout the year, which is great since I refuse to skimp on my haircut.

If I do decide to use a shampoo, having a natural plant based Lavender Mint option is great. The shampoo smells wonderful and my hair is just as happy as when I use no-poo. When I dilute it 50/50, the price ends up being comparable to the commercial options in the store. So if you feel like using this type of natural shampoo is so much more expensive and you just can’t afford it, try diluting it. If you've tried natural shampoo before, leave me a comment below. I'd love to hear what you think!

When I order my natural shampoo and conditioner, they give me points back that I can use toward more products—like Frankincense (which I also love putting in my hair). Does your local store give you points or money back? Do they give you free gifts just for being a loyal customer? I shop at Publix too, so I know the answer to that question is no.

I’ve seen such a huge difference in my life since I’ve gone chemical-free, and I’d love you to experience the same amazing benefits!
